Jurassic Coast Walking Holidays

Jurassic Coast Walking Holidays

Footscape Jurassic Coast walking holidays follow the UNESCO World Heritage Site which is both varied and spectacular, tracing 185 million years of the Earth’s history. To read more about  the history of Dorset please click here History of Dorset

For much of the way our trail follows the scenic South West Coast Path.

To the west is the oldest section of The Jurassic Coast, dating from the triassic period, before crossing into Dorset at Lyme Regis and the imposing Golden Cap, the highest point on the south coast. Red sandstone hills gradually give way to the natural wonder of Chesil Beach. To the east the rolling cliffs become white limestone and chalk, with spectacular formations such as Durdle Door, Old Harry Rocks and The Pinnacles.  For more information about the fossils found along the coast and the best places to search for them please click here Fossils in Dorset

Our Jurassic Coast walking holidays are full of variety, combining spectacular coastal landscape of cliffs, caves, grassy ridges and stunning beaches with beautiful, rolling countryside. In terms of walking difficulty, we classify it as moderate overall, since it has some easy stretches, punctuated by a number of climbs and descents of varying gradients, some rather challenging and in quick succession.

There are miles and miles of dramatic coastline, mostly with no road or habitation between you and the sea. Indeed the only way to see most of it is on foot. We have also added a few inland loops, so that you can visit some picturesque villages and stop for lunch or refreshments in a traditional pub or tea shop. Description of our Jurassic Coast Walking Holidays

The key here is flexibility

Our full Jurassic Coast trail is around 116 miles (186 km) from Exmouth in Devon  to Studland (South Haven Point).

To walk an average of 10 miles /16 km per day with no rest days expect to walk for 9/10 days and the holiday to be 10/11 nights in length.

If planning to walk 20 miles a day, with no rest days the Jurassic Coast could be completed in 5 walking days, a 6-7 night holiday

We are, of course happy to devise an itinerary with the length of walk and locations to suit you- perhaps walking distances of around fifteen miles a day.  Alternatively you may wish to walk at a slower pace, visiting places of interest on the way or enjoying long lunches at one of the many excellent pubs and restaurants on the route, in which case perhaps request daily mileages of around 5-6 miles per day.

Needless to say, you do not need to walk the whole Jurassic Coast– we can create an itinerary to suit you!

Your Jurassic Coast Walking Holiday can be anything from 3 days to 20!

You choose – where and how far you walk each day- and whether you want to include non-walking days to explore the local area.
