Jurassic Coastal Walks

Description of Jurassic Coastal Walks

Our Jurassic Coastal walks follow the UNESCO World Heritage Site which is both varied and spectacular, tracing 185 million years of the Earth’s history. For much of the way our trail follows the scenic South West Coast Path.

To the west is Lyme Regis and the imposing Golden Cap, the highest point on the south coast. Red sandstone hills gradually give way to the natural wonder of Chesil Beach. To the east the rolling cliffs become white limestone and chalk, with spectacular formations such as Durdle Door, Old Harry Rocks and The Pinnacles.

Our full Jurassic Coast trail is around 80.2 miles from Charmouth to Studland. Taken as a whole, it is an eleven day holiday with eight days walking and one rest day in the middle (assuming an average daily walk of ten miles). Of course, a Footscape holiday can be designed to include only parts of the trail and walking a daily distance that suits you best.

The Best Jurassic Coastal Paths

Our Jurassic Coastal walks are full of variety, combining spectacular coastal landscape of cliffs, caves, grassy ridges and stunning beaches with beautiful, rolling countryside. In terms of walking difficulty, we classify it as moderate overall, since it has some easy stretches, punctuated by a number of climbs and descents of varying gradients, some rather challenging and in quick succession.

There are miles and miles of dramatic coastline, mostly with no road or habitation between you and the sea. Indeed the only way to see most of it is on foot. We have also added a few inland loops, so that you can visit some picturesque villages and stop for lunch or refreshments in a traditional pub or tea shop.

Your holiday can be 3 days or 10. You choose – where and how far you walk each day. Contact us to help put your holiday together.

Accommodation & Services

The accommodation on this Inn to Inn walking holiday is mostly of a good standard, but the number of rooms is limited at certain points of the walk and we strongly advise you to book early.

It is ideal for an active family holiday as there are great beaches and other attractions for your children along the trail. The price of your holiday includes, a full English breakfast each morning, our detailed trail guide (Footscape Trail Guide) and baggage transfers. We will also supply you with the relevant ordnance survey maps, with Footscape trails highlighted.
